Since its founding in 1976, the farm and the business Axel Månsson A/S has grown from 43 hectares to approximately 2,100 hectares, with the majority cultivated organically. Axel Månsson A/S is Denmark's largest producer of iceberg lettuce, but the farm's diverse portfolio includes a wide variety of other vegetable, organic egg production and green energy.

Transparency and community engagement are key aspects of Axel Månsson’s operations. The farm offers guided tours, professional lectures, and workshops as well as meeting facilities. An organic farm shop, housed in a former henhouse, and an organic farm café provide visitors with direct access to the farm’s products.

Axel Månsson A/S stands as one of Scandinavia’s most innovative producers of organic vegetables and eggs. With over 40 years of experience, the company has consistently focused on soil health, plant quality, and animal welfare. This commitment to sustainable farming practices has allowed Månsson to evolve continuously, expanding its product range to meet market demands.

Innovation and Product Development

Innovation is at the heart of Axel Månsson A/S. The company’s development and demonstration areas are where new species and varieties are tested annually. This activity is crucial for trialing whether new products can be grown organically in Brande's sandy soil.

At Axel Månsson A/S, organic farming is seen as part of the answer to future challenges within climate, environment and biodiversity. Increased life in and around the soil is vital for the food production of the future, and this focus on biodiversity is taken into account when planning the production.

Circular farming brings sustainable change

Sustainability is a core vision for Axel Månsson A/S. The farm aims to become self-sufficient in nutrients, closing the organic cycle. An organic biogas plant converts various biomasses into green gas, with the residual biomass used as valuable fertilizer for the vegetables. There is a strong focus on both nutrients and carbon. Cover crops are established everywhere, and all the chicken yards are planted with trees - it all helps to hold back the carbon from the atmosphere. It’s a natural part of the strategy to produce in a climate-friendly, circular and sustainable way. Cutting-edge technology is employed in all stages of production, from weed control to vegetable packaging, ensuring efficient resource use and full traceability.
